How to build an ear stack

An ear stack is easier than it looks. Start small at the top, let the lobe lead, and add one piece with movement.

In short

  • Wear the largest piece in the first piercing and the smallest at the top.
  • Add a huggie in the second piercing for a little sparkle.
  • No extra piercings? An ear cuff gives an instant stack.

An ear stack is a set of earrings worn together, across more than one piercing or with a cuff. The trick is to vary the size and shape of each piece, so the stack reads as one look.

The simple order

  • First piercing: your statement, such as a drop, a hoop or a sculpted stud.
  • Second piercing: a small huggie or a stud with a little sparkle.
  • Upper ear: the smallest stud you own, or a cuff that needs no piercing.

Keep the largest piece lowest and the smallest piece highest. That keeps the stack balanced.

No extra piercings?

Ear cuffs sit on the upper ear without a piercing. Pair one with a statement earring in your lobe for an instant stack.
