What does 18k gold PVD mean?
PVD stands for physical vapour deposition. A fine layer of 18k gold is bonded to a 316L stainless steel base in a vacuum chamber, giving an even, warm gold finish. It is a different process from traditional electroplating, and it lets us offer a gold look at a fraction of the price of solid gold.
Is gold plated jewellery real gold?
Gold plated and gold PVD jewellery have a real gold layer on the surface over another metal, so they are not solid gold. Every Raine & Co piece is 18k gold PVD on 316L stainless steel, and we say so on every product page so you know exactly what you are buying.
How do I clean gold plated jewellery?
Wipe pieces with a soft, dry cloth after wearing. For a deeper clean, use lukewarm water with a little mild soap, rinse and dry fully. Avoid jewellery dips, toothpaste and abrasive cloths. Put jewellery on after perfume and lotion, and take it off before swimming, bathing and exercise.
How long does gold plated jewellery last?
It depends on how often a piece is worn and how it is cared for. Rings and bracelets meet more wear than earrings and necklaces. Keeping pieces away from perfume, chlorine and harsh cleaners, wiping them after wear and storing them separately all help the gold finish last longer.
