How to clean stainless steel jewellery

A gentle routine for gold PVD pieces on stainless steel, and the things to keep away from them.

Fine gold chains in warm sunlight

In short

  • Wipe with a soft cloth dipped in lukewarm water with a drop of mild soap.
  • Never soak pieces with stones or pearls, and pat everything completely dry.
  • Keep pieces away from dips, polishing pastes, bleach, chlorine and ultrasonic cleaners.

Gold PVD jewellery needs very little looking after, but a gentle clean every few weeks keeps it bright.

The routine

  1. Mix a drop of mild, unscented soap into lukewarm water.
  2. Wipe each piece with a soft cloth dipped in the water. Do not soak pieces with stones or pearls.
  3. Wipe again with a cloth dampened in clean water.
  4. Pat completely dry before storing it in its pouch.

What to avoid

  • Jewellery dips, polishing pastes and abrasive cloths, which can wear the gold finish.
  • Household cleaners, bleach and chlorine.
  • Ultrasonic cleaners for pieces with stones or pearls.
